ndis(4) is a wrapper for using Windows NDIS drivers, generally people prefer NOT using hacks like that if a native driver exists.

If ste(4) is attaching now, and it works, then that means someone wrote a new driver.. or adapted an existing driver to work for your specific card/chipset.

TL;DL version, switch your configuration to ste0.. it's a native FreeBSD driver.
