Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5320
This walmart-grade laptop has an RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC. I tried FreeBSD-10.3/amd64 earlier today (primarily to explore the ZFS tech) but there's no driver for this NIC. There aren't even WinXP 64-bit drivers (from Realtek or Toshiba) for this NIC, so no FreeBSD NDIS driver could be built...
OpenBSD to the rescue. Some firmware (with the wired NIC set up and connected, a simple # fw_update -a after installation) was needed and it's running nicely. With some software configuration and tweaking, this tawdry hardware might begin to look like a sleek, elegant machine. Thanks OpenBSD!
