What I know is that as root, 'Xorg -configure' then Xorg -config xorg.conf.new then copy to /etc/X11 for the OS to read when launching X is all.
I have a habit to just use xinit /path/to/some/window/manager .. at will or need :-) and I never had to Xorg -configure except on iMac
I'm still willing to know what executables or files OpenBSD uses to launch X in the absence of a xorg.conf (my case) .. so it probes hardware and uses the right settings.
