Default First Post.. Woot!! --- An obvious Makefile question..?

[posted this on the old forums - just found out about new forum]

It is a honor to have a first post...

------------------------
Sorry for the waste of electrons.. but
I have a really dumb question and simple question that I
could not find an answer for..

Running -stable
Updated both ports and src.
In the ports system.. Makefile..

If the version listed in the Makefile is:
for example
Nagios is 2.10 and the latest version is 3.01..
(which is in ports listed here)

Can you change the version number and get the newer version..?
Not just in the Makefile but follow the changes for 2.10 listed
in other places like distinfo

Code:
MD5 (nagios-2.10.tar.gz) = 8c3a29e138f2ff8c8abbd3dd8a40c4b6
RMD160 (nagios-2.10.tar.gz) = 87086848911072a5504dd61f11ece8f0cf39db5e
SHA1 (nagios-2.10.tar.gz) = b519c1b332fcc814346eecb987f689113f4f0ab6
SHA256 (nagios-2.10.tar.gz) = d3e916bd11619259246e12a45aac8761e7318b54ed701472e8e49a03d939e5c8
Realizing that I will have to visit the ftp /http sites to get the necessary
info to update the distinfo..

I know ports goes out and pulls the tarballs from several sites and
the compiles and builds the packages.. so the changes to the
Makefile (and others) should pull
down the necessary dependencies for the newer version..?

thx
