Strange, Skype's download site is offering an fc5 RPM for Fedora Core 6 and Fedora 7. Which would explain why net/skype has a warning that the FC6 ABI is the minimal required; although the distfile says skype_static-2.0.0.72-oss.tar.bz2 rather then an rpm file.
I assume there is no explicit F8 RPM, unless it is straight from Fedora -- I would likewise assume the main issue is the Linux ABI, rather then which version of Fedora the RPM was made for; but I avoid the Red-headed Package Manager ;-)
