Thanks for the replies. I do not believe that my bios supports AHCI - at least no options that specifically use the term AHCI come up. I can enable on-chip SATA and if SATA is set IDE or RAID. I have the latest BIOS installed.

It is interesting that FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD all treat the driver specification differently. It works with out issues with FreeBSD 6.4/7.3 and Linux, requires an on-chip softraid setting in NetBSD and does not work at all in OpenBSD or FreeBSD 8.0


I went ahead in put FreeBSD 7.3 in.
