I created the .Xdefaults file then added the line (which actully existed in /root)
it works fine now
the unicode issue
I installed most foreign fonts from ports and I did a :
xset fp+ /usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/fontname
xset fp rehash
yet I can't neither save pages in their respective unicode titles not can I view unicode in lynx , my favourite browser ..
one last question please :
I favour fvwm and golem over other wms/desktops , how can I shift layouts between english and japanese , for instance ?
sorry to say I came from a wretched windows background ; the more I use bsd variants the more I feel reborn afresh .. being unix == being true and genuine
