I just started with a renamed (nonexistant) .opera, per a forum post on a linux forum. The same font problem exists. (I also had removed .Xdefaults...) In UserPrefs in the new version, there are two of four or so checkboxes missing: IIRC "use CoreX fonts , use Xft fonts" (referenced by the larger of the two htm.) So if they were placed back into opera, that might fix it. I think that is the issue discussed in the larger of the two .htm files...
