Most Jabber/XMPP clients support this, including Pidgin.. and the room should be accessible from a Google Talk account, but perhaps not from their official client.

It is not clear to me why do you have preference for Jabber over IRC and one of the channels on irc.freenode.net. I am sure it would not be too difficult to even register the channel daemon_forums or something like that. Just my $0.02. And for the record I would love to be able to chat to people as knowledgeable as you are.
