It's a national holiday, it's celebrated similarly to July 4th in the US.. fireworks, lots of city wide events, food vendors tend to roll into densely populated areas.

Rides/carnival-style games and face painting for the kids; usually emphasizing our flags colours (red,white) and the maple leaf.

Not everyone has the money to celebrate in that way, so, small gatherings and parties are common.. myself I just say the words and wait for the day to end.
