This can become complicated. Suggested steps:

1) Download the X60 manual and review the BIOS settings. If it only has secure boot (signed shim) then you have to generate a signature for the shim. There is an old post in the forums on howto sign a shim.

2) Read the documentation for libreboot. It appears to work, previous post has links, but it would not hurt to mentally go through the steps prior to laying out $.

3) Have a plan for installing any needed firmware. Firmware is normally installed over your network connection. If you need firmware to establish a network connection then you have to jockey usb thumb drives.

4) Double check the hardware. Thinkpads can come in different flavors. Make sure the one you get does not have nVidia video.
