The handy thing about mutt is that I can use it from any machine. One can set it up to even include .doc attachments if necessary.

Although it takes a bit of adjustment if you've been used to GUI mail clients, you will probably find it was worth the effort. I have a page on it at

As for the language issue, assuming that you can use your language in an Xterm of some sort, for example, uxterm, you should be fine. (As you have to have X running for a GUI mail client anyway, this shouldn't be a sacrifice.)

For example, I can use mutt with Asian character sets, though not in console.
