All humor aside, I've been using CUPS on CURRENT without fail (other than that annoying firefox crash issue with the gtk-cups package) for years now. Granted, this is with a network-attached printer, so it's cheating...but it works no less.
I can't comment on direct-attached printing in OpenBSD. I purchased a nice brother printer based on compatibility, and then it ended up hooked up to my wife's Win7 machine. Go figure.
