The rolling release model, a consequence of the pacman package manager, at first glance seems to be a setup for periodic system breakage but in practice it rarely happens.
I had thoughts that pacman could be made to work with the BSD's, particularly OpenBSD current, as it encourages the use of binary packages. Arch linux also has a system of 'build scripts' that users can submit for software that is not in the official repositories, which also works well.
