RAID1/RAID5 for storage of these dumps, if your disk fail, then you lose all backups, some external case/NAS for 2 disks or maybe just RAID1 on NFS server.

Maybe also generate your own LiveCD/ISO image that you will be able to burn, boot and bring back latest backup (system dumps in this ISO also).

About restoring, create scripts that will speed up and automate restoration process.
