Opera being proprietary software, it's very likely (I haven't checked) that the FreeBSD port just grabs the official archive file and extracts it as it is.
I surmised it as a possibility from the thread, which I did not read very carefully. OTOH it probably is a user-configured file somewhere, but I'd rather wait until I rebuild the port someday than spend time retesting or desinstalling fonts, etc.
As this install is customized to my liking, I'm reluctant to do revisit the font
problem until I happen to upgrade a whole lot of ports at a time (xorg downtime of
several days usually).
