You do not need to "build" anything at all.
  1. Install OpenBSD 6.0-release.
  2. # pkg_add gnome
  3. # rcctl disable xdm
  4. # rcctl enable multicast messagebus avahi_daemon gdm
  5. # reboot
Steps 3-5 are at the bottom of the README I keep asking you to read.
