While it may not be a direct replacement, the
BSD Stats Project does something similar. It's not a true representation of the exact number of BSD systems out there, and only PC-BSD enables it by default (the rest are opt-in), but it is a decent setup. The stats can't really be used for useful analysis, but can be used for "there's at least X number of BSD systems out there" statements.
