I am running FreeBSD7.1 on my laptop, and use wpi to connect to wireless. I had similar issues as well. Same connection issues, restart wpa_supplicant and dhclient. But a few days ago i rearranged my work desk and switched off the router for a while, during the shifting. Believe me, don't know what happened I have never had any problems with the wireless since then. I suspected it, since in a cafe or other openwifi area, i had no issues, only at home, there were connection problems. but after having switched the router off for sometime and switching it on, it is absolutely fine right now. May be I am not being of much help here, but I am just saying what happened in my case.
