You first should make sure that the permissions are correct. What does the following command produce?.

$ ls -l /dev/cuad0

I'm trying to open communications on my computer's only serial port, but, whenever I do, I get the error "Device Busy: '/dev/cuad0'"

Please explain or specify what you are doing exactly.
