Mining the project's mailing lists are the best place for finding information about small SBC (single board computers).

Personally, I have a number of Alix systems which are usually single purposed -- ntpd(8), tftpd(1), Git, & soon, access point. More or less cheap, power efficient, & small form factor. They don't have high powered processors, but they are certainly good enough for home use. Doing PXE installs (see Section 6.10 of the FAQ...) makes the installation process quite simple. Updating via USB is nearly as simple as on a laptop or desktop system (outside of the console cable requirement...).
