Unlike Ethernet which is a mature technology where most cards sold today will most likely work right out of the box, wireless support is still relatively young. The situation is further complicated by manufacturers being reticent about releasing information about their chipsets coupled with the frequency of new chipsets becoming available. Open Source (& especially OpenBSD...) lives by freely available documentation. Many wireless manufacturers restrict access by requiring nondisclosure agreements or nervousness about providing sensitive information to competitors. So, finding wireless support can be aggravating.

Yes, it is nice when wireless connections work, but it is a volatile market, & many get blinded by its convenience & overlook its security issues.
