pf.conf syntax changed from 4.7 -> 4.8, so you might need to tweak that file.

Converting from rwx to oct is simple. There are three sets of letters in rwxrwxrwx...the first three letters are owner, the second three are group, and the last three are other (everyone else). The numbers are calculated as such:

r = 4
w = 2
x = 1

So if you want rw-------, you'd need 4+2+0 (x is unset) for owner, 0+0+0 for group, and 0+0+0 for other, giving you 600.

Likewise, if you wanted rwxr-xr-x, you'd need 4+2+1 for owner, 4+0+1 for group, and 4+0+1 for other, giving you 755.

Download bsd.rd and put it in / (overwrite bsd.rd there), then when you get the boot prompt, type in "boot bsd.rd" to start the installer.
