Default Manpage colorization on the terminal

I'm running NetBSD 5.0 RC_2, working at the console and have set term to wsvt25. When I go to read the manpages (or anything with the pager, both more and less display the same in this instance), those words that are set to ITALIC, come out as reversed video with a brown background. This is annoying, but livable when the foreground is set to white (white on brown), but becomes near illegible when the foreground is set to green (green on brown).

I have looked through the manpages for wscons, invoked the command to see what was set and googled on the subject, but I can't figure out how to alter that color.

How do I alter the color of italicized text in the manpages? Note this is fine in xterm (italics are displayed as underlined words). It is in the console that this is like this.
