Single-Level Chip and Multi-Level Chip
In SLCs, each bit has two states: 1 or 0
In MLCs, each bits has three states: 1, 0, or <something>
SLCs are faster, MLCs have more storage space. SLCs have better wear-levelling (hundreds of thousands of writes per bit). MLCs wear out faster (tens of thousands or less).
SLCs are mor eprevalent in enterprise gear. MLCs are more prevalent in low-end consumer gear.
