I have a FreeBSD box and a Win2K box on a KVM, use them for
different things. When I want to watch movies or listen to music
(or burn cd's) I use the FreeBSD desktop and when I want to read
mail or surf the web I use the Windows pc.

More to the point my expectations are different for the FreeBSD
box - I use GNOME for the desktop and it's pretty good at what it
does but I don't expect it to be Windows, which to me is good for
games and web surfing.

My FreeBSD box is more of an educational machine where I can
write code and learn how operating systems work. The fact that
the desktop I use can handle music and movies well is a bonus. The
features of the desktop have improved a lot over the years.

Having done it that way for a while I think having both boxes is
the way to go, enjoying each OS for what it is.
