Never had to disable ACPI to install anything before (but if memory serves me right I had to disable APM to get DragonFly BSD to boot a few versions ago). Tried disabling ACPI now with the latest OpenBSD snapshot - didn't help.

This laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. The thought of serial ports hasn't crossed my mind since 1990s - I'd have to RTFM on what I have, but I certainly don't have any cables for them. Too late on a Sunday night to try to go out to get one... Any chance of it being able to log dmesg to HDD or USB, or over Ethernet / telephone modem?
