The OpenBSD developers have an eye toward the elegance that comes from simple, bug free code. If you review the commit history for pcmanfm you will get a sense that they are not enamored with pcmanfm.

For myself, I found xfe in OpenBSD to be a more functional graphical file manager which I now rarely use. File manipulations can be accomplished from the command line in a simple, elegant manner although it does entail learning and reading man pages.
