You won't see any operational differences. But i386 has some limitations.
- RAM address space, as noted above.
- Fewer and smaller registers, which can impact some applications -- you'll note the number of packages available between the two architectures is a little different.
- CPU capabilities, which vary by CPU model. Some newer features are available on a CPU in either 64-bit or 32-bit operating modes, on another CPU these may be be 64-bit only.
