Its developed mostly by Linux people and they love to rewrite things from scratch no matter if old attitude was good or not, they are just bad at fixing/huntung bugs propably.
We currently have LLVM compiler for 99% of the source code, pcc is updated also, maybe some day we will have something like BSD fork of x11, a more customized Xenocara for example, I would love to see such thing written by NetBSD people, they write so great minimalistic things.
