Danger has customized the NetBSD kernel for their environment. The userland layer on top of it is not the same as a stock NetBSD installation, & I am sure that the display requires specific drivers not common to a generic NetBSD install. Whether these drivers are available to the public is unknown (to me). To find help with installing applications, you will need to search for Danger-specific mailing lists for further information. What little time I spent looking for one didn't yield any results, so I tend to agree with Carpetsmoker's assessment that this device may not be very open, but the amount of research either one of us has put into the venture is quite small. You should search further for more information.
