The problem you're experiencing tends to show up from time to time with certain drivers and/or buggy chipset revisions, the exact cause of your problem is unknown and there is very little we can do to help you here.
It might be a good idea to install another card and see if that helps, alternatively, try replacing the cable.
You should send a bug report, right now, the gnats system is down, so try sending an email to bugs@ or contact the authors mentioned in the man page.
