I personally find the
http://fvwm.org/doc/unstable/index.h... documentation and
the manual pages for the flibin' virtual window manger the best resource -- gorking at it untill it makes sense or your head explodes (which probably requires both to do really awesome things).
Creating the basic configuration file through the menu will yield a fairly basic but "as expected" enough configuration but a personalized setup is better fvwm is very much a build it your way frame work imho.

fvwm-devel / 2.5 is stable enough for typical usage
