Not everyone who "fails to upgrade" is either crazy or a laggard.
Several reasons why someone might not change to new software:
1) New software upgrades are time consuming and expensive.
2) New software does not run on old hardware.
3) New software runs slower on old hardware.
4) New software uses up too much disk space compared to old software.
5) New software has more bugs than old software.
6) New software is less secure than old software.
7) New software is less usable than old software.
and there are probably many more "rational" reasons...
