I did try with “enable” after your post, but again, no change.
Incidentally… I checked Xorg.0.log, and saw this:

(WW) VESA(0): Option "NoStretch" is not used
It appears with either “enable” or “on”. Not sure what the significance is.
EDIT: It looks like NoStretch is limited to
the Chips and Technologies video driver. Seems like this is the wrong way to go. Is there another way to letterbox?
