I think it depends on version. At least my Opera doesnt have the torrent entry in the Download section

Another way to disable built-in torrent client is to edit the

~/.foo/opera6.ini

foo could be either native Opera or Linux-opera, then search for "torrent", change from 1 to 0

But I reakon the quickest way is to use the Preference editor
