Maybe for some users Discord would be more straightforward, because it does not need phone number. It provides text based and optionally voice chat. Recently they added video-chats too. Discord runs fine in current browsers.

In telegram you need a phone number, but this is not shown in the group or to the other users, telegram is not like whats app
