I'm pretty sure that the use of puffy is fine as long as the art is positive in nature. I do the same thing all the time to match themes. Just open stuff in gimp and go to town. My current favorite is using wireframe puffy and using it as a subtle texture on a darkish shaded desktop. I would be willing to bet money that Theo will never reply. So, do what you please. I do.
