When you get to the partitioning section, do you see free space? You can always choose BSD label. (I've only done it with Linux distributions on a disk, and the way it has worked is that I would create the free space first, then highlight the disk, e.g., ada0, click create, and it would create a partition, where I could choose the size. I then click create again, and can create mountpoints.)
I don't know if that's any help, though, I have not tried sharing a drive with Windows.
