You can use cups to print and samba to file sharing or you can mix the two togother. I used to have them live alone, to add a printer (with this confiruation) in M$ workstation see attachment
cups run great in my office where we run Novell with M$ workstation + hp printers. My (ghost) FBSD station serve as a getway to the printer for my others (ghost) FBSD stations
do not forgot that Apple buy Cups for Mac OSX so cups will be better in near future
