Three suggestions:
  • Search through the project mailing lists, preferrably misc@ for related error messages. This will be far more productive than blind searches through Google. Various mailing list archives are discussed at the following:

    http://www.openbsd.org/mail.html

On first pass, I did not see anything that stood out.
  • Secondly, I would recommend either installing or upgrading to -current. OpenBSD 5.0-release was tagged in CVS mid-August, so there have been 4+ months of development since 5.0-release was frozen. Information on upgrading can be found in Section 5.1 of the official FAQ, & the Following -current page.

If you do ultimately submit a bug report (via http://www.openbsd.org/report.html), the first thing the project developers will question is what behavior is seen on -current.
  • Lastly, you may also want to try installing the amd64 port.
