Hmm, I tried to stick with cwm this year, but ended up going back to my old favourite.....fluxbox.
I use what comes with X very little, but it's handy to have.
I always have mc & mpg123, very handy combination to have, especially if you use the command line.
Regularly had xmms & mplayer installed, & always have firefox for the internet, (including web email).
So, that's the basics of my 'desktop'.
