I have some ideas..
  • Try bringing the interface up: % sudo ifconfig bge0 up
  • Switch over to the presumably unused bge1 interface, i.e: physically disconnect the cable and try the other port.
  • Use a different cable, as instructed by J65nko.. it may be of poor quality.
  • Upgrade to a newer version of FreeBSD, like 7.2 perhaps.
