Nice job on the GNOME tutorial. In the fairly recent past I've installed and run GNOME in both OpenBSD (4.7) and FreeBSD (7.3 and 8.0).

The environment is quite fast in both operating systems, although as you can see from the tutorial there are a few manual-configuration steps you must take before everything is working properly.

I spent quite a bit of time running OpenBSD with the stock Fvwm2 window manager and Xfce, both of which I recommend. But if you find yourself more productive in GNOME, the BSDs are a good place to run it. Both OpenBSD and FreeBSD support GNOME very well (i.e. the developers who create the ports/packages definitely eat their own dog food and want this stuff to work).
