I can't tell what happened from here. But ... that laptop uses a Core 2 Duo processor which is 64-bit capable. You will get more capabilities, better security, and better performance using OpenBSD/amd64 instead of OpenBSD/i386.
Check your dmesg(8) output, look for "LONG" among the CPU capability strings.
