Perhaps you haven't read it, or perhaps you have. Either way, it is worth repeating what is stated in
Section 13.1 of the official FAQ:

While I understand your frustration, unfortunately, the only answer anyone will be able to suggest is simply to experiment. You can post the output of
mixerctl(1), but all anyone can do is simply look at the list & make suggestions which you may have already tried.
As for options:
- you can perform an exhaustive test of these controls, or...
- you could install a snapshot of -current (which is currently 4.9-beta...), & see if this provides the control desired.
