I'm not sure ocicat, but some laptops/netbooks with internal MiniPCI/MiniPCI-e slots tend to hardcode the vendor/product ID in the BIOS, preventing you from using another card.

Communities tend to pop up around those devices and include custom BIOS images that you can flash to either bypass this vendor imposed limitation, but sometimes it's not as easy and you need to modify it yourself and include the new vendor/product information (..via hex editing, etc).

Then again, OP could have meant something entirely different, further clarification would be nice.. especially why he thinks it's not functional.
