UEFI booting relies on motherboard NVRAM entries directing the firmware to load specific .efi loaders located on the EFI system partition, OpenBSD uses $ESP/EFI/BOOT/BOOT{X64,IA32,AA64}.EFI and I presume the NetBSD does the same.

That location should be booted automatically in the absence of any UEFI boot entries in the firmware NVRAM, this is how the OpenBSD installer boots.
