You posted hoping to find someone with specific knowledge of what has changed. It is fair to say that most here who might have contributed anything salient have had a chance to do so. Given that you are asking how these packages have evolved from 4.2 to 4.3, it appears to be time to contact those actually responsible for their care & feeding. The information page for the
no_x11 package:

ports@ mailing list, & post the
exact details of what was done in both 4.2 & 4.3 & see what response is received. Information on subscribing to
