Hardly hype. All of the web sites my company develops uses portions of HTML5. It's based on implementations that are already in some browsers and not invention and there must be at least two complete implementations in browsers before it will be finalized. Hence, while everyone is comfortable using CSS2.1 today, it still has not been finalized.

I know of no developer who stays on top of things who does not use HTML5 and CSS3 as we do. The only thing holding us back from using more is Internet Explorer which has always held back the web from progress.
